Seattle instructor Patrick Moriarity recently worked with the Adobe character animation team to make an animated short film—then discussed the creative process at the Adobe Character Animator Panel at San Diego Comic Con. Moriarity, who teaches Media Arts & Animation courses at The Art Institute of Seattle, partnered with former instructor Seth Zeichner to create “The Realm Beyond Reason.”

Moriarity spoke about the collaboration with Adobe during the Comic Con panel “Turn Comic Illustrations into Animation.” The panel focused on how to transform hand-drawn illustrations into a film and was moderated by Adobe’s Erica Schisler. The event also featured tutorials of Adobe Creative Cloud’s Character Animator software.

Moriarity’s work on “The Realm Beyond Reason” is featured on Adobe’s YouTube channel and blog, which showcase his career in the industry. Moriarity is an award-winning designer, cartoonist, and illustrator. He served as the art director for Seattle-based comic book publisher Fantagraphics Books in the 1990s, and created comics and illustrations for Nickelodeon, National Geographic Kids Magazine, and HIGHLIGHTS—as well as animations for the 2005 documentary “Derailroaded.”
