The Community Council was formed in 1954 when a group of concerned citizens formed an “organization of organizations…a forum for the entire community… to take part in solutions to problems.” Lead by the St. Charles Rotary Club, the original 36 members included representatives from Lindenwood University, the St. Charles School District, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Baue Funeral Homes and several human service agencies. Throughout the years, the Community Council has been instrumental in bringing service providers to the St. Charles area, as well as leading initiatives to address such issues as poverty, affordable housing, mental health, disabilities and youth services. Today, the Council has 200 members from nonprofits, business and local government. Through monthly network luncheons, education and resources, the Council works to strengthen the human service sector and spread awareness of issues facing the Tri-County region of St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren Counties. In addition, the Council’s Fragile Families Initiative leads efforts to end homelessness and hunger in our region through collaboration, data collection and planning.
