Maintains Continuity in the Workplace, Advocates Lifelong Learning
Daniel Weber is an owner and game designer at Fire Hazard Entertainment. He says that his primary responsibility in the office is ensuring continuity among the many projects the company handles. Daniel is a strong advocate for setting up a work schedule. “Plan properly for the scope of work and set dates to meet deadlines,” he recommends. Daniel believes that by practicing this philosophy while still in school, future game designers can be ready for the high-intensity levels present in the industry.
Because of strong competition within the gaming world, Daniel advises others to work on building new and innovative skills. And he says that the right job might require moving across the country—or to another country. “You need to be committed to this trade to make it in the industry. You have to work on your craft every day to improve,” he adds.
He believes that patience and respectfulness are critical in the workplace, and notes that it can be difficult to work with others who have different opinions. “Nothing productive ever comes from arguing. Try [to] look at the problem from their point of view and have a lot of patience.”
Fire Hazard Entertainment has released two games on mobile platforms—successes that occurred through Daniel and his team’s hard work and dedication. “I feel stretched and challenged with I am not moving or doing anything. Having a task and working towards a set of goals actually eases my conscience about what I am doing.”
Daniel, who in 2016 earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Game Art & Design from The Art Institute of Tampa, says that his education provided real-world guidelines for what’s expected in the workplace. He continues to grow as a graduate and says that learning new skills and thinking about new solutions provides a strong sense of professional achievement.
