The Illinois Institute of Art Partners with National Black Chamber of Commerce for Pass the Torch Young Entrepreneurs Competition The Illinois Institute of Art Partners with National Black Chamber of Commerce for Pass the Torch Young Entrepreneurs Competition

Students from The Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago, The Illinois Institute of Art – Schaumburg and The Illinois Institute of Art – Tinley Park will get a chance to pitch their business idea, “shark tank” style during this year’s “Pass the Torch” Young Entrepreneurs Competition to a panel of business professionals at the National Black Chamber of Commerce’s  (NBCC) National Conference in Chicago this July.

The competition is part of the National Black Chamber of Commerce’s goal of supporting young entrepreneurs and business leaders by providing valuable feedback and incentive for the development of today’s young entrepreneurs.  The opportunity encourages students from all three campuses to pitch their ideas and products to a panel of experts, investors and esteemed members of the NBCC for an opportunity to win cash prizes toward their businesses and mentorship. Pass the Torch provides a platform for an aspiring entrepreneur to obtain feedback and direction from business professionals and industry leaders. Interested students will submit their entries to the local campus where the finalists will be selected to present their idea/pitch during the conference session. The top three pitches will be selected to win $1,500, $1,000 and $500 respectively.

“The NBCC is about empowering and sustaining African American communities through entrepreneurship; we are delighted to encourage our young people to get involved and form their own new businesses,” says Harry C. Alford, President/CEO of the National Black Chamber of Commerce.

“We are honored to have been selected to work with the National Black Chamber of Commerce on this competition and are excited to see the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of our students,” says David Ray, president of The Illinois Institute of Art- Chicago.

Existing or New Students Who Enroll Prior to or for the Sept. 30, 2013, Class Start Eligible for Tuition Freeze

The Illinois Institute of Art — Tinley Park announced today that it will not raise tuition through December 31, 2015, for existing students and  any new student who enrolls prior to or for the September 30, 2013, class start.

“The ability to afford a higher education in America is a national priority and we are keenly aware that the pursuit of a college degree can be financially challenging,” said Donna Gray, president of The Illinois Institute of Art — Tinley Park.  “Our pledge to hold the line on college tuition for current or new students who enroll prior to or for the September 30, 2013, class start is a decidedly bold move in a climate where higher education costs continue to increase.”

The Illinois Institute of Art — Tinley Park has not increased tuition for students attending campus-based programs since October 2010. The school remains committed to finding additional avenues for reducing costs so that those who wish to pursue a higher education can do so.

“Our priorities center on students’ success and achievement,” Gray said.  “By doing what we can to arm our students with the financial information they need in order to plan their educational futures, we hope to create the proper environment for students to excel in their chosen fields of study and prepare them for successful future careers.”

Current students with questions may contact their financial aid officer for complete details and terms of the tuition program. Prospective students interested in learning more may visit www.artinstitutes.edu/tinley-park or contact an admissions representative for complete details and terms of the tuition program.
