The Art Institute of Michigan-Troy Faculty Wins Writing Contest

(Michigan, May 2015) Melissa Grunow, full-time English faculty at The Art Institute of Michigan-Troy, a branch of The Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago, received statewide recognition for her writing on May 16, 2015.
Melissa won both First Place and Second Place in the Detroit Working Writers 2015 writing contest in the creative nonfiction category for her work, "We Knew a Different Kind" and "Candyland," respectively. The awards, which came with a cash prize, were presented at the Detroit Working Writers Annual Conference, "Craft: Getting it Write" at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy.
She earned her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from National University in January 2015. She also has a Master of Arts in English Literature from New Mexico State University and a Bachelor of Science in English from Central Michigan University. Her creative nonfiction and short stories have appeared in nearly forty national and international literary magazines since 2013.
Melissa has been with The Art Institutes since April 2012 as the General Education Program Coordinator at the Novi location and became full-time faculty at the Troy location in July 2014.
