[My education] helped me to believe that I could actually set out and do what I’ve always wanted to do. From the instructors to my peers, I received nothing but encouragement—but also harsh criticism, for which I am grateful. Jason Stublen is a motion graphic designer for MYMIC, LLC. Jason says that his job involves animation and illustration, and he’s responsible for designing and animating what he describes as cutting-edge training materials. He enjoys the team-based environment of his workplace. “Working together to make something amazing has always been the best part for me. I believe that the true art of anything is the action of making it.”
He admits that getting to this point in his career was not easy. “It was a long, hard road and I am thankful for every minute that I have.” But he is excited to be a creative artist, following the creative path of those he considers to be inspirations: Disney’s 9 Old Men, Andy Warhol, Edouard Manet, Paul Cezanne, J. R. R. Tolkien, and Bryan Lee O’Malley.
Jason adds that his industry is moving toward more use of virtual reality. “I am amazed at the virtual reality wave that seems to be on the brink of exploding. Soon, the barrier of watching a show or playing a game on a screen will be broken—and another dimension reached.”
Jason, who in 2015 earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Media Arts & Animation from The Art Institute of Virginia Beach, says that his education provided the confidence he needed to become a creative professional. “[My education] helped me to believe that I could actually set out and do what I’ve always wanted to do.
